Purpose of the CHF

OUR VISION:

Support biodiversity conservation initiatives, particularly those related to biodiversity stewardship, focussing on the establishment of new protected areas and support to existing ones in the Maputaland Pondoland Albany Hotspot.

The purpose of the trust as set out in the trust deed is to:

  • Conserve the biodiversity of the Maputaland Pondoland Albany Hotspot area.
  • Initiate, maintain, support and promote any environmental conservation projects and related activities associated with the achievement of its purpose.
  • Consolidate and build on the investment made by the Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund (CEPF) into the Maputaland Pondoland Albany Hotspot.
  • Create and maintain a charitable trust and associated capital funds and to expand these by receiving funds and assets by way of donations, bequests, and any other form of gain and to initiate and execute actions to obtain income for the financing of the purpose of the foundation.
  • Provide an independent platform for multiple organisations to pool their capital thus creating a larger fund with associated efficiencies and improved returns on investment.
  • Enable the ring-fencing of funds for the use of particular organisations or specific conservation initiatives, which will be managed through formal agreements between the funders and the trust.
